In line with its national mission in the field of food safety and security, and with the aim of developing the country's specialized capacities in modern biotechnologies, the Central Laboratory of the Research Institute of Food Science and Technology has expanded the scope of its activities to include genetically modified (GM) products.
According to the Public Relations Office of the Institute, on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, technical specialists from the Iran Food and Drug Administration visited the Institute's Central Laboratory to conduct an on-site inspection and comprehensive assessment of various sections of the laboratory. The purpose of the visit was to evaluate the laboratory's qualifications and technical capabilities for receiving accreditation as an approved laboratory of the Food and Drug Administration in the field of GM products.
During the assessment, the technical team carefully examined the laboratory's technical infrastructure, specialized equipment, biosafety requirements, standard operating procedures, quality assurance systems, and relevant documentation in order to verify compliance with established regulations and requirements.
It is worth noting that the Institute's Central Laboratory has previously been accredited as an approved laboratory of the Food and Drug Administration for physicochemical and microbiological testing of saffron, maintaining effective and continuous cooperation with regulatory authorities.
This initiative represents an important step toward enhancing the status of the Institute's Central Laboratory as one of the country's specialized and accredited laboratories, as well as advancing national infrastructure for the monitoring and control of genetically modified products.
